Everett Kassalow, a native New Yorker, worked as Associate Director of Research for the CIO Department of Research and Education from 1945-1947 and 1949-1950. This collection contains his files from the time when he worked for the CIO, primarily in 1949 and 1950 as Associate Director of Research and Executive Secretary of the Full Employment Committee. Included are drafts of When Unemployment Hits, a 1949 CIO Manual (pub. no. 174), published by the Community Services Committee in conjunction with the Full Employment Committee on developing services to meet the needs of the unemployed. Other items include programs for the CIO Committee on Regional Development and for the CIO Community Services Training Institute (both August 1949), corporation financial reports from 1950, information on the CIO reaction to Senator James Murray's 1949 bill on economic expansion, and notes and correspondence on articles for Economic Outlook. The folders for the Full Employment Committee include a 1947 letter from CIO President Philip Murray to Nat Cowan establishing this committee.
